If you liked 4x15, better not to read this. I don't wanna pee in your parade.
Oh, and before I forget. These statements are just my opinion. Of course I'm not the owner of the truth as we say in spanish ;P.

Okay.. I think there's only one way I'm gonna be able to shrug off last The Mentalist's episode; Talking about it. What I liked, what I didn't like.

First of all.. there were so many plotholes it's not even funny. Although now that I think about it, that might help me get over it, since as a lot of people pointed out, it almost felt like we were watching another show entirely.

Last time we saw Erica, was in 3x19. That's almost one season ago. That's at least 17 episodes ago, if we count s3 finale as one episode and don't consider this one (4x15).

Granted, she wasn't convicted immediately, but she was in custody from then on, so she wouldn't be able to keep up her business, which begs the question: how was she able to have a client as recent as 10 months old? Unless all those episodes count as 10 months, which frankly makes little sense considering Sarah's pregnancy episode-speed. Even if when we (Sarah and Rigsby included) learned she was pregnant she was already 3 months in (that's more or less the time she could have been pregnant without it showing, I've been told), she's now 7 months pregnant.. so the three last episodes have represented like 4 months?

I find hard to believe the Red John situation has kept the same for so long, among other things to remain unchanged.

Somehow I feel the writers should commit to make Sarah pregnant or just not have done it at all. I love Sarah and I can feel the tragedy that is probably coming her way, but I could go with it if it didn't feel like they want her to almost give birth to the baby asap. What's that about? I get if they don't want to prolong the "Rigsby's gonna be a dad" drama (as cute as he is), but it was too much too fast.

Other thing that bugs me is Wainwright. Either he's really naive (which makes me ponder how is it that he's in charge at all) or he's stupid. I used to like his being young and somewhat inexperienced in the field, but seriously... how dense one has to be to not realize Erica had a real chance of escaping? At least her "guards" were both not male, or I would have done a headdesk.

But how was it that she was allowed to almost leave by herself in that limousine? Her assigned agents should have gone with her, not to mention the fact that she was allowed to have her fancy clothing back (I assume it was hers) and go riding in limousines as a convicted felon wasn't ridiculous enough.. Lisbon went with them since Jane couldn't be trusted, but I insist: how come the agents that were supposed to guard her didn't go? It wasn't Lisbon's job to babysit Erica, it was theirs.

As much as I am a shipper, I found Erica's and Jane's interactions somewhat amusing, and I'm glad they at least played with their (supposed xD) attraction a little before they made them kiss. The kiss itself I found sexy, but I gotta say the way to reach that point was beyond forced. I know Jane's just a man with hormones and all, but especially when Erica fed the line "they (the agents outside the door) are to keep you and I apart".. I was rolling my eyes. Such a overtly dramatic (and untrue) statement. I honestly don't think they would have cared if they had sex, if they already allowed her to stay at a fancy hotels, with her fancy clothing and all that. As long as Jane didn't aid her escape, I don't think the guards would have cared.

I missed the team. I missed Cho, I wanted more Rigsby and Sarah on screen, and Lisbon, so little Lisbon on screen... I also missed season one Lisbon, that wouldn't have taken this crap. Although truth be told, Minelli wouldn't have taken this crap either so she wouldn't have had to in season one anyway. Minelli didn't even want to get a man out of jail for the sake of the Red John case, much less a lower profile case just because the lady murderer wanted to get pampered.

Don't get me wrong, I love, LOVE Morena Baccarin and her character here is at the very least intriguing, but she is not a main character. I feel we saw so much of her we almost didn't see the team, or the case for that matter.

Jane's attitude after the kiss was over I liked, since he realized too late what he had done, what he had indulged in, and his facial expressions were spot on, as Simon's usually brilliant performance in emotional moments is. But his flippant attitude in later scenes bothered me. I keep telling myself it was probably his way to "show" that he didn't care, that he could stay aloof and unaffected, but... for all his guilt-ridden face after the kiss, the fact that he allowed her to kiss him again later (in front of the policemen no less) rubbed me off the wrong way. I thought he wouldn't let it happen again, as it was supposedly a moment of weakness.

Now, again onto Wainwright.. isn't he going to get even a little suspicious over Erica's escape, given that he saw her give Jane a peck on the lips (that he somewhat reciprocated, given by the hand on her waist) as a goodbye? I'm not saying  Jane actually did aid her escape, but as a detective, wouldn't you get suspicious? COME ON.

How come the agents that were assigned to babysit Erica weren't at the scene when she was picked up? Or they the ones to get her to prison again?

Oh right, she wouldn't have been able to escape that way.

I admit her in the tropical background, already so far away demonstrated how deep her skills go, but it's a little disturbing they tried to make her a "cool" character, given the fact that she DID murder her husband in cold blood last season. Wasn't this supposed to be a show were, aside from Red John episodes for obvious reasons, good prevails?

GEEZ.

Right now, I just want Lisbon to punch him in the nose, hard. Or in the crotch, whatever hurts the most. Probably the crotch.

Heck, they should have a giant fight. It was his brilliant idea to get Erica out of prison (and it was granted by the genious that is Wainwright, with pathetic vigilance) and now she's out somewhere having fun after apparently like 6 months of emprisonment for manslaughter.

And he's just quietly sipping tea at the end of the episode, with no consequences at all, not even a reprimand?

Can I kick him in the groin?

I just want next episode soon, to move on from this. Right now, I'm even having trouble thinking of the Jane/Lisbon ideas I had for fandom stuff, because frankly, she deserves far better than the jackass he was this episode.

I'm a new Mentalist fan. I started watching from Season 1 a few weeks back (since these are my summer holidays) and i'm on ep 17 of season 4! I just cant stop. And I'm so glad to have read this "rant". I like Summer but oh God.. A hooker? So a hooker for Cho, playboy for Lisbon, waitress (or what do you call Lorelei) for Jane, a Red john's friend for Grace.. Cant help but think that Sarah will be someone crazy too.
I do ship Jane and Lisbon but I really think she needs to slap/ punch him a few time.
Amazing article, you pointed out very nice things.
